Maram Makerspace is a mission-driven Oak Park area project, created to bring together people, knowledge, and tools (physical & digital) to spark inspiration, bridge the gap between the desire and the means to create, and build a collaborative, inclusive, community hub.
Through a combination of workshops and talks, memberships in the makerspace itself, and eventually event space rental, we look forward to funding a long-term sustainable non-profit arts, tech, and writing community. We look forward to building bridges to Austin, Berwyn, Forest Park, River Forest, Elmwood Park, Galewood, and other surrounding communities.
We started with writing workshops held in 2017 and 2018, and at the end of that year, applied for an OPRF $50,000 Big Idea grant. We were finalists! But sadly, did not win. We’re now in the process of applying for other grants and looking for space; currently, we operate out of donated space, and are eagerly looking forward to finding an accessible physical home.
Maram is community-based, with a host of volunteer staff, and all are welcome to help us shape the future of this project. Join us!
How to Teach With Us
We would love to talk with you about any workshops, classes, or lectures you could run through Maram.
Please reach out to Alix Mikesell and Xap Esler. They will probably ask for a short bio + a proposed workshop title and description, and we’ll get back to you with more information on our programming process.
Currently, we’re offering lectures and hands-on workshops but we’re always looking to try new things. We currently offer a 50/50 tuition split to instructors; we always build in some scholarship slots.
